Nurtured by Darkness: A Winter Solstice Celebration

  • Way Opens Wellness Online viz Zoom (map)

There’s a reason so many important holidays are centered around this time of year – we know intuitively that the short days and long nights have secret powers to support us. We may loathe and fear the dark, and our response might be to hang a lot of lights in defiance, but the wise ones tell us that dwelling with the darkness in quiet, open curiosity will feed us in ways that activity in bright sunlight simply does not.

The solstice is a balancing point, where earthly revolutions are poised at the brink of the return of light. As we approach the longest night of the year, you are invited to enter into the experience of darkness, exploring your fears and desires about this season. In that process you can rediscover your deep, receptive capacity for insight.

Balance is what it’s all about. This experience will include:

  • practice with some balancing movements

  • a guided contemplative investigation of the darkness within and without

  • inspirational poems and other readings

  • a time to share our own expertise, teaching one another what we know about the gifts of darkness.

We will end with a simple ceremony that honors the night and ushers in the new day.
