The Ministry of Silly Everything: Humor and the AT

The Ministry of Silly Everything: Humor and the AT

Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly.
Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply.
Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.
I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig.
Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me.
– Aldous Huxley

Are you “preposterously serious” too? It’s easy to become so, especially when learning the Alexander Technique.  Our unconscious habits of tension and misalignment are certainly troublesome, but they don’t have to be the enemy. What if the patterns you encounter and wish to change are amusing, entertaining, even funny?

In this workshop we will laugh at ourselves, without losing depth or respect for our bodies and minds. It has been said that there is a jewel embedded in our habits, and it may be the jewel of humor based on humility. When we don’t take ourselves or this process too seriously, we discover a kind acceptance of our human foibles. When we lighten up, we become flexible, resilient, and responsive to each unfolding moment.

Come prepared to discover and share your weirdest habits of misuse, and any stories from lessons or life that will make us all laugh. If you’re brand new to the Alexander process, this might make it easier to learn.

We are absurd creatures, to be sure. Let’s play with that truth lightly together, just to see what happens.

This online workshop is offered free of charge, as part of the 6th Annual Alexander Technique Online Summit: Finding Balance in Ourselves and Our World. Hosted by AT Teachers of Greater Philadelphia.
