Meditation is simple, but it’s not easy. It takes practice. At first, it can be hard to know how to start, and it’s equally challenging to keep your practice fresh and compelling. There are specific ways into practice, aspects of the meditative experience that can be leveraged in support of mindfulness and embodied awareness. Meditation leads to spiritual liberation and the relief of stressful states of being, and it is grounded in very practical methods.
This course will explore several ways to find support and balance in meditation, by experimenting with the Series of Fours:
Four postures for meditation
Four “noble truths” of Buddhism
Four foundations of mindfulness
Four steps to “RAIN” practice
Four elements - water, earth, air, and fire
Four positive actions – kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity
Four anchors for attention – body, breath, sound, thoughts & emotions
In the six 90-minute classes, and during the week in between, you will learn
how to meditate
the benefits of meditation
how to establish and maintain a regular practice
what the Cornerstones offer that can make your practice deeper and steadier
how to develop your own creative ways to meditate
If you have an established meditation practice, this will be an intriguing way to apply what you already know, as well as learn some new approaches.
If you’re new to meditation, this will take the mystery out of the process and give you some reliable support as you begin your journey.
You will also get:
Exclusive audio meditations for optional practice between classes, with other resources to supplement weekly themes, yours to keep.
Class recordings in case you miss a week.
The opportunity to participate in a daylong meditation retreat on October 29 (location TBD).
One 30-minute private practice meeting with Amy (a $50 value)
