Walk away from pain, step into joy!
Join an exploration of what we do when we walk. Whether for exercise or just to get around, for most of us walking is a daily activity. Yet moving around on two legs is a balancing act, and lack of awareness often causes problems. Folks are not walking with balance and ease, and many people have poor coordination. We end up with foot problems, lower back pains, messed up knees, and a variety of other preventable issues. What could be a highly enjoyable activity -- and our major evolutionary advantage -- becomes a painful drudgery.
It doesn't have to be like that! You can learn how to:
walk with balance and ease
eliminate strain and prevent injury
solve foot, knee, and lower back problems
Together, we'll start with a short warmup using simple Qigong moves to establish balance and center our energy. Then we'll apply some basic principles of the Alexander Technique to see how it can help, with optional hands-on assistance. We can troubleshoot some of your specific walking challenges, which helps everyone learn.
Then you will walk (alone or in pairs or small groups, your choice) along the lovely Delaware Canal, practicing what you’ve just learned, experimenting with Alexander awareness in motion.
Finally, we will gather together again to report our findings and share insights.

“I really enjoyed my whole morning, the location, the weather, the walk. It felt wonderful to be realigned and I love hands-on work.” -- Sarah H., actor

Please note: enrollment is limited so that we can safely maintain social distancing. Participants are required to wear a mask during the group learning periods. While walking along the canal, mask wearing is encouraged but may not be necessary if the paths are not heavily populated. Hand sanitizer will be available.
